South Carolina is one of five states selected for a 2014 “Gold Shovel” award in recognition of its success in new job creation and economic impact.
The annual Gold and Silver Shovel awards are given by Area Development, a quarterly magazine that focuses on site selection and facility planning.
Texas, Georgia, Missouri and Utah will join South Carolina in receiving a Gold Shovel award, while Silver Shovels will be given to 15 other states.
Geraldine Gambale, editor of Area Development, said all states receiving a 2014 Shovel Award “have worked tirelessly to establish pro-business environments that attract new industry as well as to support their corporate citizens in an expansion mode.”
All states were invited to submit information about their top 10 job creation and investment projects in 2013.
States with the highest weighted scores based on the number of high-valued added jobs per capita, amount of investment, number of new facilities, and industry diversity were selected for a Shovel award, Area Development said.
